A Checklist To Think About When Moving Home

Moving home can be one of the most stressful events that can occur to the average person throughout their life, it ranks up there with job loss and divorce. It pays to get organised and a checklist of what needs to be done can come in handy for any size of the move. It doesn`t matter the size of the property, from a tiny studio flat to a Tudor mansion the overall idea is the same: MAKE A LIST.  This should include the tasks that need to be completed and in what order and when!

Everyone hates moving especially organising and packing all their belongings. A moving company like us can help with this and take a lot of the stress out of the whole process, but it should start with a good list.

Before Moving Day

Contact Sawyerr Peters to confirm a removal day

Complete removal agreement and a wee pat on the back for starting the process

Start Packing – work out how many boxes, and packing materials are needed etc., we can help

Change of Address – contact all your service providers of your intention to move e.g. bank, dentist, DVLA, phone provider, post office, Inland Revenue, the council, insurance, etc. This website can help – www.iammoving.com

Pets – for the duration of the move you may need to check out if there is availability in the kennels or cattery. Also, the current vet`s records should be transferred to a new one.

Subscriptions – any charities or magazines that you subscribe to should be notified or cancelled.

Utilities – contact the gas, electricity, and water companies and notify them of where you are moving to and on what date and tell them of the final readings.

TV Licence – this is not automatic when you move and you would be liable to a fine of up to £1000 if you don`t let them know of the new address.

Fridge/Freezer – empty, clean, defrost and dry your fridge ready for the move about 2 days before. You don`t want the freezer defrosting on the way over to your new address.

The Big Day (moving day)

Readings – take a note of the appropriate meter readings

Keys – hand over the keys to the Estate Agent in charge

Cut Off -switch off the power, water, etc.

Kettle – keep the tea/coffee flowing, the hard-working staff at Sawyerr Peters may be in need of some refreshment after all the hard lifting they will need to do.

Check, Check, Check – make sure you haven`t left anything behind that is not supposed to be there.
